The rumor that Lt. Governor Jay Collins is mulling over running for the U.S. Congress in Florida 14th District has been panned. The rumor that has circulating around a small political echo chamber in Florida raised eyebrows but according to two sources close to Lt. Collins have dismissed the rumor as being "categorically false," adding that the lieutenant governor was "focused on his duties as Florida's Lt. governor and continuing to push forward an America and Florida First agenda."
Collins, who did run for the House of Representatives against Rep. Kathy Castor (D) several years ago, is said to be strongly considering a run for governor in 2026, which would set up a showdown between him and Rep. Bryon Donalds, who has already announced his gubernatorial aspirations.
Collins recently fueled talk of him jumping into the Republican gubernatorial fray when he responded to Democratic gubernatorial candidate David Jolly's statement that Floridians were "screaming for change" in the state.
“The only change David Jolly is after is taking away your guns, and not protecting our God given freedoms. Floridians won’t stand for a life long politician that flip-flops on his convictions.," said Collins in a statement to The Floridian.
Is he still interested in running for governor?
