WASHINGTON, D.C. – Florida Congressman Greg Steube (R) slams Congress, including 143 other Republican representatives, over their rejection of Steube’s Department of Defense Appropriations Act Amendment.
Rep. Steube released a heated statement claiming Congress “just voted to continue sending your tax dollars to a terrorist harboring nation.”
Steube continues his statement, claiming that the Lebanese Armed Forces are harboring Hezbollah terrorists and have merged them within their ranks.
“Everyone knows the Lebanese Armed Forces are compromised by Hezbollah. Their government and military are swarming with enemies of the United States. The only country benefiting from America shipping millions of dollars to Lebanon is the regime in Iran. Yet my colleagues just voted to write the Lebanese Armed Forces another check,” he stated. “Your tax dollars belong here in America, not in the pockets of our enemies.”
In a previous statement where Steube introduced his Amendment to the DoD’s Appropriations Act, he claimed Lebanon was sympathetic to Hezbollah’s cause and that any more funding given to the Lebanese Armed Forces only accomplishes undermining regional stability and threatening Israel’s security.
Steube’s proposed amendment not only aimed to cease funding to Lebanon but also to the “anti-American organization,” UNESCO.
"UNESCO is a mismanaged organization and has a long history of anti-United States bias, anti-Israel bias, and has honored countries that consistently violate human rights. Why should we give Americans’ taxpayer dollars to organizations that hate America?” Steube said.
Steube has come under heavy criticism over the proposed amendment, with many claiming that Hezbollah will only grow more powerful if funding to the Lebanese Armed Forces were to cease.
