U.S. Rep. Greg Steube, (R-FL) called for the permanent implementation of President Donald Trump’s tax cuts, with the goal of financial security for working class Americans.

“If Democrats have their way, working families and small businesses will suffer the largest tax hike in American history.” he said.

“We must make the Trump tax cuts permanent to deliver long-term financial security for the American people. Let’s get it done.”

The tax cuts, Steube referred to is President Trump’s 2025, "One Big, Beautiful Bill."

Secretary of the Treasury Scott Bessent told Congress that the One Big Beautiful Bill will deliver the largest tax cut in U.S. history and boost financial progress for middle-class Americans and the private sector without fueling inflation.

Many Democratic politicians have been staunch critics of the bill, claiming it would be devastating for those states won by Trump while giving tax breaks to the rich.

U.S. Rep. Debbie Wasserman Schultz, (D-FL), commented on the bill, calling it “Trump's Big Ugly Bill.”

Trump's Big Ugly Bill rips health care from millions, explodes our debt, and makes the largest ever cuts to nutrition assistance.” she stated.

According to a report done by the Congressional Budget Office, “resources for households in the lowest decile of the income distribution would decrease by about $1,600 per year (in 2025 dollars) mainly attributable to reductions in in-kind transfers, such as Medicaid and SNAP."

In contrast “resources would increase, on average, by about $12,000 for households in the highest decile, Those projected increases are mainly attributable to reductions in the taxes households in that decile owe"

The House of Representatives passed the bill by a narrow 215-214 vote. The Senate will now consider the measure and decide whether to approve it.
