Gov. Ron DeSantis traveled to the Buckeye State Tuesday, where he met with Ohio House and Senate lawmakers to advocate for congressional term limits for members of Congress. Invited by the U.S. Term Limits organization, the governor pushed Florida's previous passage of House Concurrent Resolution (HCR) 693, which calls for a U.S. Term Limits convention.
“D.C. will never fix itself,” DeSantis said in a release. “Term limits will change the incentives for members of Congress from focusing on reelection to focusing on tangible accomplishments.”
HCR 693 was passed in the 2024 Legislative Session under the guidance of then-House Speaker Paul Renner.
Florida is one of 12 states that have passed resolutions in both chambers calling for such a convention. The others are Alabama, Indiana, Louisiana, Missouri, North Carolina, Oklahoma, South Carolina, South Dakota, Tennessee, West Virginia and Wisconsin
Under the Constitution, state legislatures have the authority to propose amendments without the approval of Congress. For a U.S. Term Limits Convention, two-thirds of the 50 states must pass similar resolutions.

"The Governor’s efforts to work with other states to call for U.S. term limits is an important function of the role of states in demanding accountability from Washington, D.C," the release added. "Today’s advocacy builds upon his longstanding record of calling for much-needed constitutional reforms."
