The Florida Senate Democratic Caucus announced on Thursday that Lori Berman (D-Boca Raton) will serve as its new Senate Democratic Leader following the resignation of Sen. Jason Pizzo (I-Sunny Isles).

Leader Berman issued the following statement on the selection.

"I am honored and humbled to have the support of my colleagues to serve as the next Leader of the Florida Democratic Caucus," Berman said. "At the time when Floridians are demanding results, clarity, and courage, our caucus is more unified and more determined than ever."

The move comes after Sen. Pizzo resigned from the post in a shocking announcement on the Senate floor.

"Across the country and here at home, we've seen what happens when Democrats lead with vision and values - from winning special elections to shifting the conversation on issues that matter most to working families," Berman added.

Leader Pro Tempore Tracy Davis also congratulated Berman on becoming Senate Leader.

"I congratulate my colleague Senator Lori Berman on her selection as our caucus's Leader," Davis said. "This is a well-deserved recognition of her service and deep dedication to supporting Democratic values in the Florida Senate."

"I have no doubt that under Leader Berman's leadership, our caucus will continue to address the issues most important to Floridians. "I am committed to continue my service as Leader Pro Tempore - as I believe there is much work to do - and look forward to succeed my good friend in 2026 as Leader of the Democratic Caucus," Davis added.

In addition, Florida Democratic Party Chairwoman Nikki Fried issued the following statement.

"Congratulations to Lori Berman on being elected as our new Senate Democratic Leader.
Fried said. "Right now, we need a leader who will fight for all constituents and uphold our values when democratic institutions are under attack. Leader Berman has a friend in me.
