President Donald Trump's (R) appointments continue to pour in, exciting supporters and dividing critics. This week, among a slew of nominations, President Trump announced that he would be nominating former Hawaii Rep. Tulsi Gabbard (R) for Director of National Intelligence (DNI). Rep. Gabbard has embraced the president in recent years, proclaiming that the "America First" agenda is the future. Florida Rep. Jared Moskowitz (D) is now questioning the appoint, calling Rep. Gabbard a "reckless" choice for DNI.
Rep. Gabbard formerly served as a member of the Democratic Party where she was the vice-chair of the Democratic National Committee. After finding ideological conflict with the party, she left and registered as an Independent. Earlier this year, she announced that she had registered as a Republican while speaking at a rally for President Trump.
However, her tension with the Democratic Party dates back to the 2020 election. Some accuse her of destroying the presidential aspirations of Vice President Kamala Harris (D), and others accuse the lieutenant colonel of being a foreign asset.
Secretary Hillary Clinton (R), during the 2020 election, suggested that Rep. Gabbard was a "Russian spy." During an appearance on a podcast with former Obama advisor David Plouffe, Secretary Clinton expressed that the Russians have "got their eye on somebody who is currently in the Democratic primary and are grooming her to be the third-party candidate," adding that "she's the favorite of the Russians." The comments were in reference to Rep. Gabbard mounting an Independent run for the presidency, which did not happen.
Flash-forward to 2024.
Rep.Gabbard has now aligned herself with President Trump, she has been nominated for DNI, and Democrats are still sounding the alarm on the threat she allegedly poses to the country.
Taking to social media to comment on the appointment, Rep. Moskowitz shared that appointing Rep. Gabbard to DNI is a "reckless" decision.
Nominating Tulsi Gabbard to lead our intelligence community is incredibly reckless. Putting someone with known sympathies for foreign adversaries is not putting America’s interests first - it’s putting our security at risk.

Republicans on the other hand have embraced Rep. Gabbard since she aligned herself with President Trump, seeing her as an "America First" candidate.
