Former President Donald Trump held a massive rally in New York City's Madison Square Garden on Sunday, with Democrats focusing on the joke made by comedian Tony Hinchcliffe about Puerto Rico and amplifying their comparison of Trump to Adolf Hitler. Representative Maria Elvira Salazar (R-FL) discussed the rally and its coverage in a recent appearance on Fox Business'sĀ Evening Edit, saying it is a sign that "they know they are going to lose."
"The momentum is palpable," Rep. Salazar added, "You can feel it everywhere from Miami to Georgia, so we are delighted to know that Hispanics and the rest of the American electorate have come to the realization that it is time to change."
Moreover, she suggested that only rockstars such as Elvis Presley and Michael Jackson could have previously filled Madison Square Garden to full capacity the way Trump did, not including the people waiting and viewing the rally outside.
Despite that, attention has been fixated on Hinchcliffe's off-color joke about Puerto Rico as "a floating island of garbage," which was supposedly meant to refer to the island's trash problem.
Rep. Salazar reiterated the denunciation of the joke by the Trump campaign and Republicans, saying, "[Hinchcliffe] is an imbecile, and I was with the Trump camp right when it was happening, and they were responding back to me that they did not understand what this guy was saying."
After all, the Florida Congresswoman pointed out that "President Trump gave billions of dollars to the island of Puerto Rico when Hurricane Maria hit, and not only that, he visited the island, so I assure you I was there with them via text, and they have nothing to do with those comments."
Salazar previously denounced Hinchcliffe on X (formerly Twitter), saying, "Disgusted by @TonyHinchcliffe's racist comment calling Puerto Rico a 'floating island of garbage.' This rhetoric does not reflect GOP values."
