MIAMI - Miami-Dade Democratic sheriff candidate James Reyes announced Monday that he's picked up a string of endorsements from local county leaders.

"I’m truly honored to have the support of these dedicated public servants who work tirelessly for our community," Reyes said. "We’re out there every day connecting with voters and local leaders across Miami-Dade, sharing why this race for Sheriff matters so much."

Support for Reyes included Pinecrest Mayor Joe Corradino, Aventura Commissioner Rachel Friedland, and Miami Gardens Councilwoman Linda Julien.

"As a Miami Gardens Councilmember, I am proud to support Chief of Public Safety James Reyes for Sheriff because he prioritizes the safety and needs of every community - especially those which have historically been underserved," Julien said. "Chief Reyes has shown up for us and proven to be not only a seasoned law enforcement professional, but also a leader who listens and takes the right actions on behalf of all residents."

Julien also noted Reyes was right for Miami-Dade County voters due to his "commitment to justice, community trust, and public safety."

In addition, Palmetto Bay Councilmember Patrick Fiore and Key Biscayne Councilman Franklin Caplan are backing Reyes. He also earned support from five Miami-Dade County Commissioners earlier this month.

"Keeping our residents, families, and community safe is my top priority. I’m committed to leading Miami-Dade forward with a focus on safety, trust, and transparency," Reyes said.

Reyes is running in November's general election against Republican Rosie Cordero-Stutz. Recently, Cordero-Stutz accused Reyes and the Florida Democratic Party of sending out a misleading mailer on her record.
