Moskowitz, House Republicans Torch Harris's Support for Ending Senate Filibuster

Vice President Kamala Harris has recently said she would support abolishing the Senate filibuster to codify Roe v. Wade into law. Representative Jared Moskowitz (D-FL) and several House Republicans expressed their opposition to the scheme in remarks to The Floridian, with the Republicans deriding vice president Harris as exposing her radicalism and warning of a slippery slope.

"I do not think we should get rid of the filibuster. In fact, I think we should bring the filibuster back to get on the Supreme Court. Quite frankly, if the Senate does not have the filibuster or does not have something like the filibuster, it becomes the House. However, I do think if you want to use [emphasis his] the filibuster, you have to actually go filibuster," said Rep. Moskowitz.

Representative Eli Crane (R-AZ) was equally terse in his comments, saying, "You have got to take [Harris] at her word. I mean, you talk about a threat to the institutions right there; I think it is pretty dangerous."

Rep. Carlos Gimenez (R-FL) said that ending the filibuster is "a really bad idea."

"The filibuster is something that protects Americans from really bad legislation. And so this shows you how [Harris] would not really know how to govern and is going to basically try to ram her leftist ideology on the American people," said Rep. Gimenez, noting the filibuster "has been there for what, 200 years? And so, yeah, she is just trying to destroy the fabric of this nation."

Representative Anna Paulina Luna (R-FL) hit Harris with both barrels in her comments, accusing the Vice President of "gaslighting Americans" and adding that ending the filibuster would only be the beginning.

"I think that she is completely gaslighting Americans as to what she is really even representing. So I think that she is saying what she wants to say to get elected, and then I think the minute she takes power, it is going to be a 180 flip," said Rep. Luna.

The Florida Congresswoman suggested if Senate Democrats retain or grow their majority, "they are going to stack the Supreme Court. [Harris] is going to input the mandates for all-electric vehicles," and further said Harris will implement multiple executive orders that would "completely destroy whatever is left of our energy industry."

Representative Cory Mills (R-FL) similarly criticized Harris, calling her support for abolishing the filibuster "no different than when she was supporting packing the Supreme Court, and she was supporting the idea of an open border, and she has supported things that are completely outrageous."

When asked if Kamala Harris's support for abolishing the filibuster showed her true colors, Rep. Mills replied, "Everyone knows who she is. I mean, the kind of new, polished approach to things is not fooling anyone because there is so much video out there of her actually being open to the idea of not saluting the filibuster but talking about the Supreme Court being allowed to have other justices. I mean, she has made many radical approaches."

Representative Lauren Boebert (R-CO) also referred to Harris's never-changing positions, saying, "She has always wanted to get rid of the filibuster, to expand the Supreme Court seats that we have. She has wanted open southern borders, and she has never been tough on crime."

As a result, the Vice President's recent flip-flops, the border crisis in particular drawing Republican ire, are attempts to make herself look a moderate, but "we know exactly what she would do. The only thing we have heard that really moderates her is what reporters do not push back on or say on her behalf, and that is where we get her moderating. I mean, even [Senator] Bernie Sanders (I-VT) says that she is moderating herself."
