The border crisis has sparked fears of a terror attack on American soil due to the high number of individuals on the terror watchlist encountered, some arguing that it is a matter of "when." Representative Mike Waltz (R-FL) expressed this concern in a recent appearance on Fox News's Hannity, saying the only thing he knew to do was to reelect former President Donald Trump.
"What really blows my mind is to see Chris Wray, the FBI Director, come to Congress repeatedly behind closed doors and ring alarm bells, and I tell him every time, 'Don't cover your rear-end by coming to us, drive over to [the Department of Homeland Security], drive over to the White House, and tell them to close the damn border, period," said Rep. Waltz.
The Florida Congressman cited a recent report released by Representative Jim Jordan (R-OH), which tracked the number of illegal aliens from countries that present national security risks allowed into the United States just in Fiscal Year 2024, which included over 33,000 Chinese nationals, 31,000 Uzbeks, 2,100 Afghans, 541 Iranians, and 520 Syrians.
Rep. Waltz also referenced the eight Tajikistan nationals with potential ties to ISIS arrested in June across three cities, supposedly planning an attack.
"We are going to get hit. We are all watching it happen in real time, and the blood is on Biden's hands, Harris's hands, and Mayorkas' hands. And I mean, it is just the most frustrating thing I have ever experienced in my professional career. We are defunding everything that we can, but we have got to stop it, and I do not know what else to do except get Trump reelected," Waltz concluded.
The concerns of a terror attack perpetrated by illegal aliens allowed over the border have not been recent, as Governor Ron DeSantis (R-FL) said it "is going to happen" before the second Republican Presidential Primary debate in September.
Representative Anna Paulina Luna (R-FL) similarly said a terror attack was "very likely" in October, blasting Democrats for calling opposition to border security "racist" and "xenophobic."
More recently, this June saw Senators Rick Scott (R-FL) and Marco Rubio (R-FL) call for a public hearing on the potential for terrorism to occur thanks to the open border, just days after the arrests of the eight Tajiks mentioned above.
