The House Appropriations Committee passed a markup on the Fiscal Year 2025 Transportation, Housing and Urban Development and Related Agencies (THUD) Appropriations bill. Florida Rep. John Rutherford (R) praised the passage of the THUD Appropriations bill, citing that it “makes important investments.”
The Florida lawmaker celebrated the markup and passage of the bill this week, sharing that it “makes important investments in our transportation infrastructure and responsible housing assistance for our nation’s most vulnerable, including the elderly, disabled, and veterans.”
Rep. Rutherford explained that “the bill eliminates over $430 million in unauthorized Biden Administration initiatives, including Green New Deal programs.” As well, the bill “prohibits the Biden Administration’s final greenhouse gas emissions rule and blocks the Administration’s push to fund wasteful climate and equity initiatives.”
He further expressed that the bill contains “huge wins for our infrastructure, our country, and Northeast Florida.”
“That is why I am proud to report this year’s Transportation, Housing, and Urban Development, and Related Agencies Appropriations bill out of committee,” Rep. Rutherford said, urging his congressional colleagues to support it.
Rep. Rutherford’s priorities which are included in the bill are:
- Invest in safer streets and economic development in Northeast Florida
- Maintain a world-class, safe, and efficient transportation network
- Keep vulnerable individuals who rely on federally supported housing in their homes
- Counter Chinese influence in autonomous vehicle manufacturing
- Block revised energy standards for newly constructed homes financed by HUD that would increase costs in an already constrained housing market
- Prohibit the Department of Transportation (DOT) and Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) from implementing the Biden Administration’s woke executive orders on equity, equity action plans, and Critical Race Theory
- Ban new commercial flights to Cuba
