President Joe Biden (D) shocked the nation over the weekend after releasing a letter announcing his exit from the 2024 presidential election. The letter came after Democrats began to speak out, calling on the president to step down. With his exit, Democrats have begun to unify behind Vice President Kamala Harris (D), who's expected to accept the nomination in August. As Democrats share their support for Vice President Harris, Florida Democrats are praising President Biden for his term in office.
Shortly after President Biden's letter was released, Florida Democratic Party Chair Nikki Fried (D) released a statement, calling the incumbent president "one of the greatest presidents in American history."
“As a leader, he has turned our economy around, guided us out of the COVID-19 pandemic, rebuilt our crumbling infrastructure and restored America’s place on the world stage," Chair Fried said. "Florida Democrats are grateful to him for his work and for all of the sacrifices he has made in service to our country. His legacy will never be forgotten."
Chair Fried went on to call on Democrats "to step up and secure the future of that legacy," noting that the course of the election has changed, but it doesn't mean that the focus of the party needs to change. "This is the most consequential election of our lifetime, and Democrats must stand united to defeat Donald Trump and J.D. Vance in November.”
The Democratic National Convention will take place next month in Chicago, Illinois, but Democrats must now choose a new nominee.
President Donald Trump (R) took to social media to criticize the Democratic Party, accusing them of being the true "threat to Democracy."
The Democrats pick a candidate, Crooked Joe Biden, he loses the Debate badly, then panics, and makes mistake after mistake, is told he can’t win, and decide they will pick another candidate, probably Harris," he wrote on Truth Social. "They stole the race from Biden after he won it in the primaries — A First! These people are the real THREAT TO DEMOCRACY!"
