Fine Slams City of Miramar for 'Muslim Terror' Ceasefire Resolution, Promises to Cut State Funding

MIRAMAR, FL—Republican state Rep. Randy Fine announced Monday afternoon that if the city of Miramar passes its proposed Israel-Palestine ceasefire resolution, he will try to revoke the city's charter and cut its state funding.

"I’m done with those who flirt with #MuslimTerror. Any city that believes it should consider supporting Hamas should not exist," Fine posted on X Monday afternoon. "Should the @CityofMiramar proceed with such a discussion, I will file legislation next year to revoke the city’s charter and see to it they don’t get a red cent from the state."

Fine turned to Democratic Mayor Wayne Messam—who traveled to Israel before his 2020 bid for President—calling him a "Muslim terror sympathizer" and demanding he "govern himself accordingly."

A contender for state Senate and the sole Jewish Republican Lawmaker, Fine's comments follow Miramar's July 2nd resolution. The proposal calls for an "immediate ceasefire" between Israel and Palestine, the release of "all hostages from Hamas",  "the freeing of all administrative detainees held by Israel", and that Israel complies with human rights standards and international humanitarian law.

The resolution condemns both Hamas' "act of terror" on October 7th and Israel's resulting bombing campaign which "claimed the lives of at least 35,000 Palestinians" and put people at risk of "starvation" and "unsanitary conditions."

On July 12th, the city commission was set to vote on the resolution, but it was postponed to "allow for further public comment," Combat Antisemitism reported. Meetings are bi-monthly, with the second to be held later this month.

This is the second South Florida city to come under fire for a proposed ceasefire resolution; in early May, Doral tried to push through a call for "no hostilities" in the ongoing War. After national outrage, the city retracted the resolution and replaced it with unequivocal support for Israel.

In early July, Democratic Sen. Jason Pizzo vowed to pull support from cities supporting antisemitism.
