Trump Hints at Rubio to be VP Running Mate at Doral Rally

Former President Donald Trump (R) hinted at selecting Senator Marco Rubio (R-FL) to be his running mate for the upcoming 2024 election. The 45^th President spoke to Doral, Florida, minutes away from Sen. Rubio’s stomping grounds in South Florida on Tuesday night.

When discussing the No Tax on Tips Act, President Trump stated that he hopes for Sen. Rubio's support for the measure. However, he then added, "Well you may or may not be there to vote for it, but you'll be involved."

Should he be selected, Sen. Rubio would likely have to change his Florida residency (assuming President Trump won’t change his as he moved from New York in 2019) in order for the Trump-Rubio ticket to be able to receive the Sunshine State’s 30 electoral votes as candidates on the same ticket cannot be from the same state. However, it is possible he would be able to hold on to his seat during the campaign as candidates only need to be a resident of the state they represent “when elected” to the Senate, according to Article I Section 3, Clause 3 of the Constitution.

The two squared off in the 2016 election and participated in fierce debates and name-calling, but the Florida senator has found his avenue as an “America First” legislator in the upper chamber but was never necessarily regarded as radical.

In addition to his loyalty to President Trump and agenda since dropping out of the race in 2016, Sen. Rubio could be a major pull for the Hispanic voting bloc nationwide.

The Florida Senator spoke to Sean Hannity immediately following Trump’s debate with President Joe Biden (D) in late June and discussed the possibility of a Trump-Rubio ticket. He even took a shot at his potential opponent, Vice President Kamala Harris (D).

“First of all, one person makes that choice (referring to Trump for his VP) and he's got a lot of really good people to pick from,” said Sen. Rubio. “We got like 10 or 12 people that are better than Kamala Harris or anybody they can come up with. So, I think anybody who's considered for that should be honored and you have an opportunity to serve our country at that level, especially now with the disaster that we're facing. That's what Trump talked about tonight. The two things I got from tonight's debate was, number one life was better under Donald Trump. Americans had more money in their pocket, the world was a safer place, America was more respected. We didn't have eight or 9 million people here illegally roaming around including a bunch of criminals and terrorists among them.”

If the potential Trump-Rubio ticket wins in November, it would be the first time either a President or a Vice President will be from Florida.
