Congressman Vern Buchanan (R-FL) has recently scored a huge endorsement with Hillsborough County Sheriff Chad Chronister of his re-election campaign.
Chronister has endorsed Buchanan just after an independent poll released this week showing Buchanan with a more than 50-point lead over his primary opponent, Eddie Speir.
“There are few members of Congress who have a stronger track-record supporting law enforcement than Vern Buchanan,” said Chronister. “Whether it is sponsoring the Thin Blue Line Act or leading efforts to crack down on gang activity, Vern understands what it takes to keep our communities safe. I appreciate the work he puts in for the people of Hillsborough County and he has my support.”
Buchanan responded, “I so appreciate the sheriff’s support and the remarkable work he and his team do to keep our streets safe. Sheriff Chronister has been an incredible resource in Congress and I look forward to continuing to partner with him in the years ahead.”
Buchanan recently sponsored a bill titled the Thin Blue Line Act, H.R. 130, which is intended to harshly punish and seek out cop killers. The legislation aims to make the murder or attempted murder of a police officer an “aggravating” factor in death penalty determinations. So far, 50 members of Congress have cosponsored the bill.
