Lawmakers Respond to Iran's Drone Strike Against Israel

Share

As reported yesterday, Iran has issued a drone strike to Israel. The attack comes as a response to Israel killing a senior officer last week in Iran's embassy in Damascus.

Iran directed missiles to Israel today as part of a major aerial attack. The attack marks an escalation in the region that further divides Iran and Israel. Israel's Iron Dome intercepted several missiles, but some appear to have broken through. There is no word as to the damage the attack has caused, but reports do indicate that fragments have landed in Jordan.

After the attack, Israel received support from the United States and other allies like the United Kingdom who argue that they're ready and willing to support Israel defend itself.

A response from Israel is expected to come soon.

Florida Rep. Maria Elvira Salazar (R) took to social media to affirm her support for Israel, writing that "the terrorist regime in Iran promised to eliminate it from the face of Earth. That's why they backed Hamas on October 7 and now they're doing it with their own bloody hands."

"Israel has the right to exist and the US must support it," she affirmed.

Florida Rep. Jared Moskowitz (D) also weighed in on the attack during an interview with MSNBC. Commenting on House Speaker Mike Johnson's (R) leadership, Rep. Moskowitz called on him to take action.

"Now is his time to act... now is his time to show why he wanted to be speaker. It's a leadership moment. It's a time to bring Democrats and Republicans together to stand by our ally, Israel," he said.

President Joe Biden (D) cut short a weekend vacation in Delaware to head back to Washington. On social media, the president shared the United States' "commitment to Israel's security against threats from Iran and its proxies is ironclad."
