Representative Kathy Castor (D-FL) released a statement regarding the $95 billion defense package to aid American allies in Israel, Ukraine, Taiwan, and the Indo-Pacific. $60.8 billion will go to Ukraine as they continue their fight against Russia.
The Florida congresswoman took a jab at “MAGA Republicans” for holding up the aid from reaching the aforementioned countries earlier.
“Democracy and freedom won today as a bipartisan majority – 210 Democrats and 101 Republicans – voted to provide emergency security and humanitarian aid to Ukraine. Despite months of delay at the hands of MAGA Republicans, I’m confident that America and our allies will be better equipped to stand strong and united against authoritarians like Vladimir Putin,” said Rep. Castor. “The security package provides support for the people of Ukraine and Israel while also providing much-needed humanitarian assistance to civilians affected by conflicts – including millions of Palestinians who continue to face an urgent humanitarian crisis as water and food supplies dwindle.”
Furthermore, Rep. Castor mentioned the reinforcement of Israel’s Iron Dome – particularly after Iran launched missiles at the Jewish state.
“This package will help Israel defend itself from Hamas and Iran by replenishing the Iron Dome missile defense system that has protected the people of Israel and was pivotal in minimizing the impact of Iran’s recent attack,” said Castor.
Finally, the Florida congresswoman thanked Speaker Mike Johnson (R-LA) for bringing the aid package to the floor but said the MAGA Republican’s actions will “not be forgotten.”
“I am thankful Speaker Johnson finally scheduled the vote, but the harm inflicted on civilians, our allies, our global standing and our national security at the hands of MAGA Republicans’ delay tactics will not be forgotten. Democrats again proved to be the governing majority with devotion to our democratic values and commitment to freedom at home and abroad.”
Castor also stated that the package grants support for U.S. Central Command (CENTCOM) which is headquartered at MacDill Air Force Base in Tampa.
She represents Florida’s 14th Congressional District.
