Biden Claims Florida is in Play, Team DeSantis Responds

With the 2024 election season in full swing, President Biden (D) has hit the campaign trail hard while President Trump (R) continues to be tied up in court.  Now Biden is claiming that Florida may be in play for Democrats this season.

As previously reported by The Floridian, Democrats seem to think that because the abortion referendum is on the ballot Democrats have the advantage going into the 2024 election.  However, President Biden has since then spoken on Florida's role in 2024.

Biden said at a campaign event in Tampa, Florida at Hillsborough Community College, "Florida – I think Florida is in play, nationally."  The Biden campaign inevitably cited the same ballot measure that Democrats are certain helps their chances this year.

Although he is no longer running for President, Governor Ron DeSantis (R-FL) and his team responded to the president's campaign events and comments with mockery.

In response to his statements in Tampa, DeSantis Communications Director Bryan Griffin said on X, "Said Joe Biden to the Florida Democrats' impressive showing of 19 voters."  DeSantis' Press Secretary Jeremey Redfern said, "The border is still open, Joe."

Despite rhetoric from Democrats and their winning stance on abortion, not much else looks positive for Biden's ability to win the state in 2024.  The Republican Party of Florida has made historic gains in registrations, outnumbering Democrat registrations by historic margins.  Trump has also won the two-time Obama voting state in 2016 and 2020 respectively.

The work that the Florida GOP has done in Florida is nearly irreversible.  But, Democrats know that their pro-choice policies are potent in swaying the average American.
