Senator Rick Scott (R-FL) joined freedom fighters on the campaign trail in Miami calling for freedom and democracy in Cuba. Within those demands, Sen. Scott condemned President Joe Biden and his administration’s refusal to hold the Cuban regime accountable for its human rights atrocities.

He also called for the release of Cuban human rights advocate, José Daniel Ferrer who is reportedly in critical condition in prison, held by the communist regime. In addition, Sen. Scott is requesting that the former Bolivia Ambassador to the United States receive a prison sentence after he announced he would plead guilty to spying for the Castro regime.

“There must be consequences for the oppression and attacks on freedom we’re seeing from the Castro/Díaz-Canel regime. They’re arbitrarily jailing freedom fighters and peaceful protestors like José Daniel Ferrer, who we recently learned is now in critical condition because of mistreatment by the illegitimate Cuban regime. This is disgusting, and the Communist Cuban regime must release José Daniel immediately.

“The spy and collaborator of the Castro regime, Manuel Rocha, infiltrated the US government in one of the longest-lasting infiltrations by a foreign agent. On April 12th, Rocha’s sentence will be decided and MUST be matched with the harm, suffering and damage he has caused to our country and to the people of Cuba. We won’t accept anything less,” said Sen. Scott.

Furthermore, Scott’s campaign took a jab at his opponent – former Congresswoman Debbie Mucarsel-Powell (D-FL) – for supporting former President Barack Obama’s (D) approach of appeasement to the Cuban regime.

“While Senator Scott continues to stand with Cuban leaders and demand freedom for the people of Cuba, the Democrats’ handpicked Senate candidate Debbie Mucarsel-Powell continues to support Obama and Biden’s failed appeasement policies,” said Scott’s campaign. “She once said that she is ‘in full support of Obama’s plan to open relations and dialogue with Cuba.’ She also invited an active member of the Democratic Socialists of America (DSA) political party, who supports abolishing ICE, to her immigration townhall.”

Moreover, the Sunshine State senator’s campaign reminded Floridians of Rep. Mucarsel-Powell’s voting record.

“As if that wasn’t enough, Mucarsel-Powell spent her short time in Congress voting in lockstep with the socialist squad, some of whom were caught meeting with the Communist Cuban regime in Havana last month. She voted 100% with Nancy Pelosi, 94% with Ilhan Omar and 93% with AOC … Floridians – especially those who have experienced the horrors of socialism firsthand – know that Debbie Mucarsel-Powell would be a rubber stamp for the failed appeasement policies of the Obama and Biden administrations. That’s why they rejected her once already and will reject her again in November.”

Finally, Scott shared his frustration with the Biden administration for their unwillingness to discuss Cuba’s problems.

“I’m also calling on the Biden administration to take action against the Communist Cuban regime. He could act today, but he is shamefully silent on the atrocities being committed by the Castro/Díaz-Canel regime,” said Scott. “Biden has abandoned Latin America and has refused to meet with me to discuss Communist Cuba’s human rights abuses against political prisoners. Joe Biden has been silent and allowed socialism to spread like cancer across Latin America, which also threatens the national security of the United States. We won’t allow this, and when I’m re-elected, we will continue to fight like hell every day until we see a new day of freedom in Cuba and across Latin America.”

Scott will face Mucarsel-Powell in the general election for Florida’s junior Senate seat in November.
