US Senator Marco Rubio (R-FL) has sent a letter to U.S. Department of Justice Attorney General Merrick Garland demanding an investigation and prosecution into reported trafficking of aborted children’s fetal tissue.

Senator Rubio’s letter follows a Center for Medical Progress (CMP) publication unearthing Planned Parenthood’s transferal of fetal body parts to UC San Diego (UCSD) for commercial gain.

CMP released a contract allegedly entered into by Planned Parenthood of San Diego (PPSD) and UCSD.

The “Biological Materials Transfer Agreement” (MTA), established for “valuable consideration,” grants UCSD “access” to “fetal and placental tissue, which are proprietary materials of PPSD.”

Federal law explicitly prohibits transactions of this kind for “valuable consideration.”

According to 42 U.S. Code § 289g–2, it is unlawful for “any person to knowingly acquire, receive, or otherwise transfer any human fetal tissue for valuable consideration.”

Given CMP’s reports provide prima facie evidence of criminal wrongdoing, Rubio’s letter urged AG Garland investigate the matter and prosecute any parties involved.

“I ask that you launch an investigation into University of California San Diego and its use of Planned Parenthood’s aborted fetal tissue in an apparent violation of federal law,” reads Rubio's letter. “Both of these organizations receive hundreds of millions of taxpayer dollars every year, and the American people deserve answers.”

According to CMP, UCSD professors routinely use aborted fetal tissue to develop lucrative patents amounting to over $127 million in revenue for the University.

Additionally, CMP discovered email threads between UCSD and Planned Parenthood organizing quarterly research meetings to discuss payment for Planned Parenthood’s services.

CMP also dispersed documents exposing UCSD’s tens of thousands in donations to Planned Parenthood.

David Daleiden, CMP’s founding director, claimed the reports reveal “Planned Parenthood sells late-term aborted baby body parts in violation of federal law, for far more money than has ever been discussed before.”

As of today, the US Department of Justice has not responded to Rubio’s letter nor to CMP’s report.
