One Man Race as Florida Hosts Presidential Primary

Share

Florida registered Republicans will head to the polls today to vote for the Republican presidential nominee.

Former President Donald Trump clinched the nomination a few weeks ago after Ambassador Nikki Haley dropped out of the race.

The primary is being assessed by political analysts as an indicator of support for President Trump among Florida Republicans.

Experts say voter participation in the primary could indicate turnout for the general elections later in the year.

Local news reported an allegedly remarkable low voter turnout during early voting phases.

According to the Florida Division of Elections, nearly one million registered Republicans cast early votes both through mail-in ballots and early voting.

Pinellas County logged the highest number of mail-in votes, reporting 30 thousand ballots cast.

As of midday on primary election day, March 19th, Palm Beach County reported the highest number of votes cast.

Mar-a-Lago, Trump’s primary residence, is located in Palm Beach.

Florida Secretary of State Cord Byrd announced the primary and has been actively monitoring its proper execution.

The Florida Department of State is providing live security updates and has yet to report any issues.

Trump is set to face President Joe Biden in November- a rematch of the 2020 presidential election.

Republican support for Trump has not waned despite his facing several civil and criminal legal battles in different states

Last month, Justice Arthur Engoron found Trump guilty of falsely evaluating parts of his real-estate empire for personal gain.

A penalty of $355 million was imposed and a bond of $454 million set if Trump appeals the case, which his lawyers have signaled they intend on doing.
