Biden's State of the Union Praised by Democrats, but Panned by Republicans

WASHINGTON, D.C.— Outside of being heckled several times, President Joe Biden’s highly anticipated State of the Union address went off without a hitch, but depending on who you spoke to after the speech, the president sounded either divisive or on point.

House Democrats like Rep. Debbie Wasserman Schultz were elated with the speech, and contended that President Biden’s SOTU address was “clear and resolute and focused.”

“I thought the president was on fire. He not only was clear and resolute and focused, but he covered out of the gate the importance of protecting reproductive freedom,” said Rep. Wasserman Schultz.

Rep. Wasserman Schultz continued her praise of Biden’s address, saying the president listed “specifics” on the issues of “ economy, climate change, border security, women’s rights, voting rights, Democracy, climate action.”

Wasserman Schultz elaborated on Biden’s acknowledgment of the importance of women’s reproductive rights, calling the efforts of congressional Republican to address the protection of In-vitro fertilization (IVF) and “cheap” talk.

“Republicans are talking about passing resolutions, verbally supporting IVF, we have to actually support IVF. The president underscored how important that was,” added Wasserman Schultz.

He went through specifics, the importance of building the economy from the middle out, and not from top down. Importance of making sure that every has to pay their fair share of taxes so that working families can succeed,” added Wasserman Schultz.

While Democrats were pleased and felt the speech spoke to the American public, Republicans like Rep. Michael Waltz did not, and called it “divisive” and nothing more than a “campaign speech.”

Rep. Kat Cammack, who recently filed legislation to protect IVF, referred Biden’s SOTU to the “State of Delusion” and said that former President Donald Trump was “living rent free” in Biden’s head.

Cammack also agreed with her fellow Republican lawmaker that Biden was appealing to his “political base” of support, and not everyday Americans.

“He is playing politics with people’s lives. That speech was not for the general American public, that was for his political base,” said Rep. Cammack.

Rep. Cammack believes that Biden had no other choice but to politicize the speech, adding that the president had to try to shore up the Democratic Party’s base of support.

“He has flip-flopped on so many issues, that his base is abandoning him and they are so fearful that if they can’t score with their own base this November, then they definitely are going go lose,” said Cammack. “ That was nothing more than a play to his base because he knows that everyday Americans aren’t buying his bullshit.”

The latest national head-to-head public opinion poll shows Biden edging out Trump by 2 percentage points.
