Biden Goes After 'Predecessor' in State of the Union Address

One day after President Donald Trump (R) challenged President Joe Biden (D) to debate, it appears that the president has responded. However, the response didn’t come in the form of accepting the challenge. Instead, in President Biden's State of the Union Address, he attempted to draw a distinction between his term in office and the term of his “predecessor.”

President Biden wasted no time in getting to his address, which meant that Speaker Mike Johnson (R) did not even have a chance to formally introduce him.

Discussing a range of topics including abortions rights, the border, the war in Ukraine, the war between Israel and Hamas, and even his cognitive abilities, the president faced backlash from both Republicans and Democrats on some of the subjects.

From the start of the address, President Biden attempted to draw a distinction between his time in the White House and President Trump’s time, simply calling him “my predecessor.”

On the border, President Biden said that “we can fight about the border or we can fix it. I’m ready to fix it.” He then called on lawmakers to pass his bipartisan border security bill, sharing that it would be “the toughest set of border security reforms we’ve ever seen in this country.”

Georgia Rep. Marjorie Taylor Green (R), donning a MAGA hat and a shirt reading “Say Her Name” in reference to Laken Riley, called on him to say her name. The president said “Lincoln Riley” and then questioned "how many of the thousands of people are being killed by illegals?"

In concluding his remarks, he commented on criticism over his age, saying that, at one point in his career, he was called too young, and now he’s being called too old.

“Whether young or old, I’ve always known what endures.”

In moving forward, the president shared that he has a vision for America that is different than one of “resentment, revenge, and retribution.”
