Moskowitz Says Border Crisis Why People 'Hate Washington'

Representative Jared Moskowitz (D-FL) told The Floridian that a solution to the ongoing border crisis is possible. However, Democrats took too long to acknowledge it, and Republicans now want to keep it an election issue rather than fix it. "It is why people hate Washington. It is why people hate D.C.," he said while condemning House Republicans' apparent refusal to act.

"Both things can be true," Rep. Moskowitz added, "they have one party that maybe was ignoring an issue for a period of time, and now they have another party that is going to refuse to do anything so they can use it for electoral purposes."

The Floridian asked if the Biden Administration can do anything to enforce border security as Republicans have said they can but refuse to do.

Rep. Moskowitz shot back with a question of his own: "Why did they pass HR2 [the Secure the Border Act]? Why did they pass that if HR2 was never needed?"

Additionally, he pointed out that the White House does not possess the specific authorities House Republicans are calling for, making comparisons to executive orders issued by former President Donald Trump, such as Title 42.

"Remember, we had COVID. We had a national emergency. COVID gave the president at that time authority. Biden then had that authority also during COVID. When the national emergency went away, some of his border authority went away. That is what Title 42 is all about," Moskowitz clarified.

Moreover, the Florida Congressman publicly condemned House Republicans' behavior, calling the current Congressional session "the least productive Congress in thirty years."

"And now what they are saying is, 'oh no, we need the president to do it, we cannot.' Yeah, we know you cannot do it. You have proven to us you cannot do anything. You have proven to the American people that you are the least productive Congress in three decades. So yeah, be a self-fulfilling prophecy and say the president needs to do it because you cannot pass a damn bill here," Moskowitz concluded.

While the Senate is attempting to reach a bipartisan border deal, House Republicans are seeking to impeach Secretary of Homeland Security Alejandro Mayorkas.
