Despite the national debt climbing past $32 trillion and the government spending $2 trillion more than it takes in (deficit), Washington continues its unabated spending.
'We are continuing to make the same mistakes that we have made over the last two or three decades," said Rep. Cory Mills in a recent appearance on Fox Business's Bottom Line while attacking foreign spending.
Rep. Mills' comments came after Senator Rand Paul (R-KY) made similar remarks about America being 'the world's sugar daddy,' which he agreed with.
"When it comes to our overseas expenditures when we can't take care of the number one priorities, which are American growth and American sovereignty by securing our own borders. Why are we overly concerned with everyone else's borders? I am not an isolationist, but I am also not an interventionist," Rep. Mills said, adding that such measures cannot be sustainable "when we are actually at a deficit ourselves and leading ourselves towards economic collapse."
Moreover, he reiterated that spending should prioritize America before any foreign aid.
"I was not elected by [Ukrainian President Volodymyr] Zelensky. I was not elected by the Ukrainian people. I was elected by Florida's seventh district and the American people," Mills continued.
Nevertheless, Mills also pointed out that "for every dollar we borrow, 73 cents is already pre-allocated on average for mandatories that most people who are in office refuse to look at for reforms."
At the same time, blanket spending cuts are not the solution because "we still have the same people who have been in office for 10, 15, and 20 years who think we can cut our way to prosperity with no real understanding of an economic growth strategy that enables our [gross domestic product] to national debt ratio be inverted."
In other words, reducing how much money we spend must be tied to how we spend it.
Furthermore, this is compounded by America's "reliance on China, who are out to destroy America."
"I mean, it makes no sense when our foreign and domestic policy is intrinsically linked. And we are continuing to make the same mistakes that we have made over the last two or three decades," Mills concluded.
