Florida Senator Rick Scott (R) has endorsed President Donald Trump (R) for president. Growing support for the 45th president has surged in the state as support for Florida Governor Ron DeSantis (R) has dwindled. The former governor of Florida outlines his support in an op-ed for Newsweek.
In the op-ed, Senator Scott calls on Republicans to unite behind President Trump.
Taking to social media to share his endorsement, Scott wrote that "if Republicans want to beat Joe Biden and rescue America from the mess he's created, Republicans must nominate the strongest candidate." He goes on to say that "President Trump has a proven track record of strong leadership," adding that "during his presidency, America's economy was booming, the border was secure, and China was being held accountable." As such, Scott affirms that "it's time for Republicans to come together and unite behind President Trump."
The endorsement comes the same week that a Morning Consult survey showed that Governor DeSantis is one of the 10 least liked Governors in the United States. DeSantis is tied with New York Governor Kathy Hochul (D) in having the tenth lowest approval rating of any state leader surveyed.

DeSantis has been involved in a rivalry with Trump, dating back to the 2022 midterm election. Since then, both Republican stalwarts have directed criticism at each other, and most recently, DeSantis downplayed the effect of Trump's endorsement in 2018.
In his op-ed, Scott writes that he knows most of the candidates that are running for president.
"They've made their case to voters, laid out their agendas and their plans, and told their stories," Scott writes, adding, "make no mistake: every single one of them would be a better president than Joe Biden. But Republican voters are making their voices heard loud and clear."
For Scott, Republican voters want Trump as the nominee.
The Floridian can report that Senator Marco Rubio could be on the verge of endorsing Trump. Sen. Rubio has stayed loyal Trump, and could return the favor in the coming weeks. Trump endorsed and held a rally for Rubio during the 2022 mid term elections.
