Representative Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-GA) has introduced a resolution in an effort to impeach the Secretary of Homeland Security (DHS), Alejandro Mayorkas.
In the resolution, the impeachment for high crimes and misdemeanors maintains that Secretary Mayorkas has failed to “adhere to an oath he took to defend and secure our country and uphold the Constitution when he was sworn in.”
Additionally, the resolution claims that Secretary Mayorkas has “engaged in a pattern of conduct that is incompatible with the laws of the United States.”
Rep. Taylor Greene accuses Mayorkas of violating a list of Constitutional decrees such as Article II and the Guarantee Clause in Article IV.
Within those articles, Rep. Taylor Greene alleges that the Secretary of Homeland Security has “willfully admitted” to his failure to adhere to laws such as The Secure Fence Act of 2006, which requires the Secretary of the DHS to “maintain operational control over the entire international land and maritime borders of the United States.”
The resolution goes on to mention, “In his willful admittance of border crossers, terrorists, human traffickers, drugs, and other contraband, Alejandro Nicholas Mayorkas has failed to maintain operational control of the border, thereby violating the Secure Fence Act of 2006.”
Within the Guarantee Clause pertaining to Article IV which declares that “The United States shall guarantee to every State in this Union a Republican Form of Government, and shall protect each of them against Invasion; and on Application of the Legislature, or of the Executive (when the Legislature cannot be convened) against domestic Violence.”
Taylor Greene believes Secretary Mayorkas has violated this oath by “allowing the invasion of approximately 10,000,000 illegals across our borders,” in effect, violating Article IV.
The resolution continues, “The ongoing invasion at our southern border is a direct national security threat against the States and against its citizens therein. Secretary Mayorkas has willfully abandoned his duty to secure the border and protect States against invasion, thereby violating article IV, section 4 of the Constitution.”
Furthermore, citing the Biden administration’s “catch and release” policies, the Georgia representative accuses the DHS Secretary of failing to observe the Immigration and Nationality Act, which requires DHS to “detain inadmissible aliens arriving in the United States or illegal aliens presently in the United States.”
Just about every Florida House Republican, including Reps. Kat Cammack, Cory Mills, Byron Donalds, and Michael Waltz, all support impeaching Mayorkas.
