Donalds Bashes Mayorkas over Border Concerns, but claims Biden is the 'Bigger Problem'

Congressman Byron Donalds (R-FL) appeared on Fox News Wednesday morning to discuss the southern border and President Joe Biden’s (D) policy surrounding it.

Rep. Donalds was asked about Secretary of Homeland Security Alejandro Mayorkas and the reported 21 sex offenders that have been arrested at the southern border in less than two months.

The Florida congressman said that the issues at the border go beyond Secretary Mayorkas and instead, go all the way to the top.

“Listen, this is absolutely outrageous. This is why so many members of the House of Representatives want to have Alejandro Mayorkas removed from this position, but we have a significantly bigger problem. And that problem is Joe Biden, let’s be very clear,” said Rep. Donalds.

He continued by mentioning that the consequences of President Biden’s policies transcend more than just border cities or red states or blue states but affect the country as a whole.

Joe Biden on day one made border policy the way it is. It is destructive of the country, it is destructive of every city, whether you’re a blue city, red city, it doesn’t matter. It is indiscriminate,” said Donalds.

Finally, the Florida congressman commented on the idea that there are problems at the northern border as well and that his colleagues are trying to address the most basic concerns.

Donalds has co-sponsored House Resolution (H.R.) 5283, the Protecting our Communities from Failure to Secure the Border Act of 2023 alongside Representative Nicole Malliotakis (R-NY). This bill looks to “take action to end [illegal immigrant] housing on public lands.”

Rep. Donalds said that this bill is the least that Congress can do at this point.

“Now we have major issues not just at the southern border, but now at the northern border. And so, co-sponsoring this bill with my colleague from New York, Nicole Malliotakis is the least that we could do in the House. But it is insane that members of Congress have to sponsor legislation to stop the White House from basically housing migrants on public lands, right? Especially considering all of the disasters that has happened throughout the southern border throughout our country. It’s a complete joke and it’s wrong that this is happening to the American people,” said Donalds.

The bill could pass in the House of Representatives on party lines, but it would face a Democrat-controlled Senate before making its way to the Resolute Desk.
