DeSantis Spokeswoman Carly Atchison: 'Trump Could Be His VP'

The Iowa Caucus is just under two months away, and Governor Ron DeSantis's (R-FL) 2024 Presidential campaign continues to court Iowa voters. His campaign was the subject of a recent discussion on NewsMax's Wake Up America with spokeswoman Carly Atchison, who surprisingly said former President Donald Trump could potentially serve as Gov. DeSantis's Vice President, should he win the nomination.

Host Rob Finnerty initially asked why Trump should debate DeSantis when he would logically have to have debates with South Carolina Governor Nikki Haley and former New Jersey Governor Chris Christie.

"Here on the ground, DeSantis is absolutely the clear number two; let's start with that," Atchison replied, "And let us also look at the fact that Iowans have not made up their mind. There are a lot of open minds here on the ground, and showing up and shaking hands matter."

Additionally, she suggested voters leaning toward Trump have come away from DeSantis events convinced to make the switch and that if Trump wants them back, "he should show up."

Finnerty then referenced the 1980 Election, where Ronald Reagan and George Bush Sr. joined forces after a vicious primary against one another, asking if DeSantis and Trump could be on the same ticket somehow.

Atchison reminded Finnerty that "DeSantis has made very clear he is in this to be President of the United States, not to be somebody but to do things for the American people. Ron DeSantis supported the former president, a lot of us did, myself included, because he promised to build the border wall. He promised to eliminate the national debt, a lot of things Americans were ready for, and he did not deliver on those promises. It is time for a new generation, a leader like Ron DeSantis, who is going to come in on day one and serve two terms. That is a critical piece. If Donald Trump were to, somehow, beat Joe Biden and make it to the White House, you would be a lame duck on day one. We need somebody who can go in and serve eight years."

Finnerty reminded Atchison that Trump winning with DeSantis following was a possibility, and his campaign should embrace that by not ruling out Trump on the ticket.

"Well, if Donald Trump wants to be Vice President, maybe we could talk about that, but Ron DeSantis is running for president. He is not running to be the Vice President or serve in somebody's Cabinet," Atchison concluded.

With Trump having a near-insurmountable lead in the polls, could look to tap DeSantis as VP pick?
