BREAKING: Explosion Near Niagara Falls, FL Lawmakers React

Share

The day before Thanksgiving, a car exploded near the US-Canadian border at Niagara Falls. Investigations are currently suggesting this was part of an attempted terror attack, although the situation is still unfolding.

According to CNN, the car's two occupants, currently unidentified, went through the initial checkpoint at Rainbow Bridge in Upstate New York by Niagara Falls and were heading to the second when the bombs went off, killing both while a Customs and Border Patrol agent received minor injuries. CNN described the vehicle as coming into the US, while a news report from Fox suggested they were going into Canada.

The Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) is hinting at the existence of explosives in the vehicle as part of a terror attack, although this cannot yet receive corroboration.

Regardless, all border crossings in the area are closed as investigations continue.

On X (formerly Twitter), Senator Rick Scott (R-FL) expressed sympathy for the injured agent and those working on the case while demanding as much information as possible.

"This is terrible, and Ann and I are praying for the law enforcement and CBP agents responding to this attack. We know that threats against America are on the rise. @FBI Director Wray warned about this danger in response to my questions in a recent [Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs Committee] hearing. I urge the FBI to immediately release all known information about the individuals involved. We must know where they are from and their motivations," Sen. Scott tweeted.

Representative Cory Mills (R-FL) similarly demanded information while suggesting this could be a diversion away from a similar event occurring at the southern border.

"I have spoken with our leadership and requested immediate closure of ALL land border crossing points. The [President] and [Secretary of Homeland Security Alejandro Mayorkas] must immediately secure borders and conduct full post-blast analysis, intel reports, and prepare for follow-up incidents. Probing attacks, a compromised or detected bomber, secondary trigger man, malfunction, or diversionary attack away from S. Border should not be out of consideration," said Rep. Mills.

Finally, Representative Byron Donalds (R-FL) said this apparent attack is a symptom of "Open borders, soft-on-crime policies, and bending a knee to the woke PC mob is an inevitable threat to our nation and its people. Today’s apparent terrorist attack must be a wake-up call to all Americans. Now—more than ever—we need a change in leadership in our nation."

Additionally, Rep. Donalds extended prayers to those affected by the explosion and for the country as a whole.
