Washington, D.C.- Congressional Republicans have sent a letter to Washington D.C. Mayor Muriel Bowser requesting the city’s  “Black Lives Matter Plaza” be renamed.

The letter, signed by tens of Republican Senators and Representatives, also asks Mayor Bowser to erase the street painting in the plaza that reads “Black Lives Matter”.

The requests come after Black Lives Matter Chapters across the country have supported or failed to condemn Hamas attacks on Israel.

According to the letter, BLM Grassroots, BLM’s main “on the ground assembly of chapters” and the current ideological leader of BLM have “thrown (their) support behind (Hamas’) murderous attacks.”

The letter also cites the Chicago BLM Chapter posting an image of a Palestinian terrorist paragliding into Israel to kill Jews with the caption, “I stand with Palestine.”

Per the letter, Bowser stated “antisemitism has no place in our institutions, our country, our world or our hearts,” following Hamas’ attacks on Israel. As such, the letter asks him to live up to his statements and counteract BLM’s anti-Semitic narratives.

Florida Senator Marco Rubio (R) spearheaded the bicameral letter.

“As long as the BLM organization supports pro-Hamas rhetoric and antisemitic views, Black Lives Matter Plaza stands as an insult to all Americans and our values,” said Senator Rubio.

A recent  report from the Anti-Defamation League (ADL) has called out American fringe-left groups, including BLM, for “supporting terrorism and violence, as well as expressing antisemitic rhetoric.”

Senator Rubio has responded to such groups’ statements by asking the Biden administration to rescind the visas of foreign nationals who are supportive of Hamas or other terrorist groups.

It is a blessing to live in America and any individual that is promoting Hamas should have that privilege revoked,” said Rubio via press release.
