Waltz Responds to China Skipping Out G20 Summit in India

Share

China has recently announced its intention to not partake in the G20 Summit held in India this year despite attending BRICS. Representative Mike Waltz (R-FL) said this is part of Xi Jinping's plan to surpass the United States by promoting their own alliances and fostering relationships with the "global south" in a recent appearance on Fox Business's Varney & Co.

The Guardian cited China's recent border disputes with India as evidence of why the Chinese are skipping out on the G20 Summit, which Rep. Waltz previously said was becoming a reason the United States and India were strengthening ties. Additionally, as mentioned, China is seeking to empower alliances dominated by them, such as BRICS (Brazil, Russia, India, China, and South Africa).

"In his further efforts to realign the world order led by the United States and the West, he is looking to do everything he can to sever the United States' relationship with Europe, the United States' relationship with the economies in the Pacific like Japan, South Korea, and Australia," said Rep. Waltz.

In addition to BRICS, China has sought to foster relationships with countries in the "global south," such as South America, the Middle East, and parts of South Asia, and the Chinese have also made headway in developing alliances with much of Africa for many years.

"There is a reason [Xi] did not attend the G20, but he is attending BRICS, and that is to embolden what they call the "global south" and to enhance China's relationships with Latin America, South America, the Middle East, and parts of South Asia. They want to replace the United States, and part of that is sidelining some of these organizations that the US has traditionally led and then enhancing others China has a leading role in," Waltz concluded.

Waltz's assessment comes hot on the heels of Chinese nationals arriving over America's borders to spy on and attempt to infiltrate sensitive sites such as military bases. Representative Carlos Gimenez (R-FL) accused the Biden Administration of "kowtowing" to China even in the face of such blatant aggression.
