DeSantis Plummets in new CNN Poll

A new poll could potentially spell trouble for Florida Governor Ron DeSantis (R). The Florida Governor has been a close second to President Donald Trump (R) in the Republican primary race. Although Trump is facing mounting legal woes, the Republican stalwart has maintained a significant lead over the rest of the Republican candidates. However, in a new CNN poll, Governor DeSantis has significantly dropped in polling and in support in New Hampshire.

In a new CNN/UNH poll, Governor DeSantis’ candidacy has suffered a plunge in support since July.

Trump still carries a significant lead over the rest of the candidates with 39% in support, but Vivek Ramaswamy (R) has now taken the lead in coming a close second with 13%. Ramaswamy, alongside Governor DeSantis and South Carolina Governor Nikki Haley (R), had a strong showing at the first Republican primary debate, and it appears to have translated to newfound support. Governor Haley has also overtaken Governor DeSantis in the poll with 12%.

DeSantis, who has been Trump’s political rival since the 2022 midterm election, fell to 5^th place, which puts him behind New Jersey Governor Chris Christie (R). Governor Christie is at 11%, and Governor DeSantis is currently polling at 10%.

The presidential hopeful has been involved in an intense rivalry with President Trump since before winning his reelection in 2022. Most recently, Governor DeSantis’ campaign team experienced a shakeup, making some personnel changes in the process.

The poll also comes the same week that Governor DeSantis unveiled his Freedom to Fuel energy plan, which seeks to lower the price of gas in the United States to $2 by 2025. Through the plan, DeSantis plans to “restore American energy dominance” and “save the American automobile.”

The second Republican primary debate will take place on Wednesday September 27^th at 9:00 p.m. at the Ronald Reagan Presidential Library.
