ALEC Action is supporting the Governor Ron DeSantis (R-FL) signed Senate Bill 264 that is intended to protect Floridians from the undue influence of potential foreign adversaries and to ensure vital national security interests are protected.
The bill enforces restrictions on foreign principals originating from “foreign countries of concern,” specifically China, Russia, Iran, North Korea, Cuba, Venezuela, and Syria. These foreign principals are prohibited from purchasing and acquiring real property within the State of Florida, including agricultural land and property located within ten miles of a military installation or critical infrastructure facility.
“Florida is taking action to stand against the United States’ greatest geopolitical threat — the Chinese Communist Party,” said Gov. DeSantis. “I’m proud to sign this legislation to stop the purchase of our farmland and land near our military bases and critical infrastructure by Chinese agents, to stop sensitive digital data from being stored in China, and to stop CCP influence in our education system from grade school to grad school. We are following through on our commitment to crack down on Communist China.”
ALEC now stands by their claims and wishes to signal to the state of Florida their feedback as approval of the legislation that preserves the State of Florida’s intent to combat malign foreign influence in real estate investments.
