House Republicans continue their battle against the Biden Administration. Representative Cory Mills (R-FL) has filed a resolution demanding the impeachment of Secretary of Defense Lloyd Austin for his handling of the infamous Afghanistan withdrawal in August 2021.
In a lengthy tweet on X (formerly Twitter), Rep. Mills excoriated the Biden Administration as having "blatantly ignored intel that Americans and our allied partners in Kabul would be left behind in harm’s way unless the U.S. corrected course in our withdrawal," which cost 200 lives including those of 13 American servicemembers.
"It’s not enough for Congress to hold committee hearings," Rep. Mills continued, "We must start taking real action to address the complete failure of this administration."
The resolution charges Austin for "dereliction of duty" and "intentional abandonment of Americans in Afghanistan." Moreover, the Taliban, dubbed by Mills as "one of the worst terrorist organizations in the world," took billions of dollars worth of military equipment for themselves.
Notoriously, Austin said he held "no regrets" about the withdrawal in March, which was met with fierce criticism from Representative Mike Waltz (R-FL), who called the statement "sad and pathetic."
More recently in August, Mills publicly condemned the Biden Administration's treatment of the families of the 13 deceased servicemembers, with one family having to pay for the return of their loved one's remains to the United States.
"It is an egregious injustice that grieving families were burdened to shoulder the financial strain of honoring their loved ones. This is an unacceptable situation that demands immediate rectification," said Mills, saying in a later statement, "The undeniable truth remains that these 13 deaths were preventable. Had President Biden heeded the provided intel warnings, this entire situation could have been avoided from the start."
Mills' resolution comes a scant two weeks after his colleague Representative Greg Steube (R-FL) introduced articles of impeachment against President Biden and on the same day as Senator Rick Scott (R-FL) demanded Federal Reserve Chairman Jerome Powell's resignation.
