DeSantis Says Trump lost 2020 Election

Florida Governor Ron DeSantis (R) has made headlines this week, which will surely rile up President Donald Trump’s (R) base of suppport. In a new interview with NBC News, Governor DeSantis admitted that President Trump lost the 2020 election.

During the interview, Governor DeSantis discussed a number of issues including his border patrol policy, which would require using excessive force against drug cartels. However, the standout segment was about the 2020 election.

President Trump is currently embroiled in legal woes regarding the 2020 election. He is facing federal charges after he was accused of attempting to maintain control of the presidency despite the outcome of the election. Many of Trump’s supporters argue that, in some way, there was voter fraud that led to President Joe Biden (D) being declared the winner. Similarly, lawmakers across the country have made the same statement, arguing instead that President Trump should be president.

After remaining mum for quite sometime regarding the election, DeSantis is now commenting on the election, arguing that President Biden in fact won.

“I’ve said many times, the election is what it is. All those theories that were out did not prove to be true,” said DeSantis.

When directly asked who won the election, he said “of course he [Trump] lost. Joe Biden’s the president.”

In 2021, when DeSantis was asked over the possibility of the election being rigged, DeSantis commented that there should be a revamp to the election process, highlighting that there would be limits on “ballot harvesting,” and he would ban election offices from taking grants from outside groups.

In his interview with NBC News, he mentioned that the election was not “conducted the way I think we want to,” but he made a distinction between what would happen in a country like Venezuela.

“I think those theories proved to be unsubstantiated,” DeSantis said.
