DeSantis Fires Another 'Woke' State Attorney in Florida

Share

First, it was State Attorney Andrew Warren who was suspended for refusing to prosecute individuals that violated Florida's 15-week abortion ban prior to the 2023 legislative session. Now Governor Ron DeSantis has suspended State Attorney Monique Worrell of the 9th Judicial Circuit Court for "neglecting her duty to faithfully prosecute crimes in her jurisdiction."

In a press release, Gov. DeSantis's Executive Office said that Worrell's "practices and policies have too often allowed violent criminals to escape the full consequences of their criminal conduct, thereby endangering the innocent civilians of Orange and Osceola counties."

“It is my duty as Governor to ensure that the laws enacted by our duly elected Legislature are followed,” said Governor Ron DeSantis. “The people of Central Florida deserve to have a State Attorney who will seek justice in accordance with the law instead of allowing violent criminals to roam the streets and find new victims.”
“We are fortunate to have a Governor committed to the rule of law and holding officials — especially those elected to protect the public — accountable for not doing the jobs they swore an oath to do,” said Attorney General Ashley Moody. “Ms. Worrell abdicated her responsibility as the circuit’s top prosecutor and her actions undermine the safety and security of our state and Floridians.”

DeSantis has tapped Andrew Bain to replace Worrell, who recently served as a county judge in the 9th Judicial Circuit, as well as serving as the Assistant State Attorney in that jurisdiction.

Florida Senator Rick Scott applauded the move to replace Worrel, stating that it was "the right move."

"This is the right move. Democrats’ soft-on-crime policies are eroding our communities and families' ability to feel safe. In February, I called on SA Monique Worrell to deliver the justice and accountability needed for the families affected by shootings in her district and said her suspension would be fully justified. She failed to do her job. Families deserve better," stated Sen. Scott
