Special Counsel Jack Smith claimed former President Donald Trump deleted security footage from Mar-a-Lago in his ongoing investigation, which Trump vehemently denied. Representative Byron Donalds (R-FL), a vocal critic of Smith, recently appeared on Fox Business's Kudlow, where he dismissed the investigation as Smith, Attorney General Merrick Garland, and Joe Biden "trying to grind their axe on Donald Trump."
Additionally, Rep. Donalds said Smith "is the prosecutor who will try to go after any possible thing," going so far as to call him "somewhat of a lunatic."
Rep. Donalds referred to Smith's prosecution of former Virginia Governor Bob McDonnell for bribery, which was unanimously overturned by the Supreme Court, as an example. He also referenced the infamous email scandal surrounding former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, for which the Justice Department "did nothing."
"Jack Smith is the prosecutor who will try to go after any possible thing. And frankly, he is somewhat of a lunatic. We saw this when he went after Bob McDonnell, the former Governor of Virginia, and that case had to be thrown out. At the end of the day, the reason why Merrick Garland chose Jack Smith is because Jack Smith will do anything, and I mean anything, to try and get a conviction," said Donalds.
"But the truth of the matter is that the President, under the Presidential Records Act, was allowed to have documents, and now this new stuff about how they deleted tapes at Mar-a-Lago? I mean, Hillary Clinton actually deleted emails. That actually occurred, and they did nothing. So now we are going to say that this is the crime of the century? No, this is Jack Smith, this is Merrick Garland, and I do believe yes, this is Joe Biden trying to grind their axe on Donald Trump," Donalds continued.
Host Larry Kudlow then quoted Mark Levin on the connections Smith has to figures in the Obama and Biden Administrations, which has gone unreported. Donalds further suggested Smith intended to be a U.S. Attorney, but Trump denied him the position.
Ultimately, Donalds concluded, "What we are seeing is very clear. They are using the Department of Justice to go after their chief political rival."
"What we are seeing is very clear. They are using the Department of Justice to go after their chief political rival, while at the same time, the same Department of Justice tried to give the sweetest of sweetheart plea deals to the President's son. And the only reason that did not go through is because they tried to sneak immunity from all of Hunter Biden's [Foreign Agents Registration Act] violations in a plea deal over a gun charge. And a Federal judge said, "This is stupid, I am not signing off on this." So that is what we have going on at the Department of Justice, or the Department of Injustice because they are just as corrupt as the Biden family in my opinion," Donalds concluded.
