Biden Condemned for Maui Response

Over the weekend, footage from devastating fires erupting in Maui left the world aghast. With homes destroyed and people left to fend for themselves, lawmakers rushed to address the issue. President Joe Biden (D) was asked to comment on the tragedy, but he is now being condemned over his response to the fire in Maui.

During a bike ride, President Biden was asked to share his thoughts on his administration’s response to the fire. When asked if he would be traveling to Maui, he responded with “we’re looking at it,” and when asked to comment on the rising death toll in Maui, he responded with “no comment.”

This has drawn criticism from Republicans, but Press Secretary Karine Jean-Pierre, when questioned by CNN’s Kayla Tausche, defended President Biden’s comments.

Saying that Biden is “deeply concerned” about the issue, the White House blew off criticism over his vacationing during the catastrophe. Moreover, Jean-Pierre assured that Biden would be speaking to the American people soon while offering no date or time.

“You could expect to hear from the president on this issue, clearly it is something that is deeply concerning to him,” Jean-Pierre said, adding that “you’ll hear from the president on this… certainly, he’s the president.”

In contrast, political rival President Donald Trump (R) released a video on social media, showing support for the people of Maui. President Trump goes on to criticize the response from both President Biden and Hawaii Governor Josh Green (D).

In the video, President Trump says, “when asked about it today, as he was getting into a car, perhaps coming home from the beach, where he has been spending a great deal of time, crooked Joe Biden, the most incompetent president in the history of our country, with a laugh and a smile said he had no comment on the death and the tragedy.”

In reference to Governor Green, Trump argued that the governor was trying to attribute the fire to “global warming.”
