With the DeSantis era possibly nearing its end in Florida as the governor pursues the presidency, Florida Democrats are currently in a rare moment where the leadership of Chairwoman Nikki Fried (D-FL) could revitalize the otherwise grim future of the Democratic party in Florida.
It is no secret that Florida has undergone one of the most dramatic paradigm shifts of any state in the union over the past several years. A state that voted for Obama twice, Florida now has more registered Republicans than Democrats. Governor Ron DeSantis (R-FL) also managed to easily win his 2022 re-election, carrying some historically Liberal areas of Florida with him.
Now, Governor DeSantis is taking his platform to the national level, to do what most conservatives hope he did in Florida on a national level. But, Florida's most promising Democrat, former Commissioner of Agriculture Nikki Fried, is making grand promises for the Florida Democratic party.
Last weekend the party hosted the Leadership Blue gala where Fried said with passion, "Let me say this loud and clear: I am tired. I am tired that conservatives think they have a trademark on the American flag,” she said as she pointed to the half-dozen U.S. flags behind her onstage. “Well, they do not."
Fried has also been active on her Twitter, posting a eerie video portraying how conservative the state has become, with the caption, "Not on our [expletive] watch," followed by a recording of the chairwoman being arrested in protest of women's abortion access earlier this year.
The ad also makes mention of several major news outlets, such as Politico or Miami Herald, that have touted Fried as a change of pace for the Florida Democratic party, naming her aggressive counteroffensive nature against the juggernaut of the Florida GOP. President Biden (D) also intends on spending more ad money in Florida.
While it has only been talk so far, Florida Republicans within the next two years will be faced with smoothly transitioning their message across administrations and maintaining their supremacy in the state government, while dealing with a seemingly revitalized Democratic party with a new Chairwoman that refuses to keep losing.
