Drag Queen Story Hour will not be taking place next Saturday at the Mexican Consulate in Orlando after concerned citizens spoke out. “That will make 3 local drag events cancelled within 24-48 hours of us taking action," said activist Justin Harvey. "The Mexican Consulate, Drag and Donuts at Boone High and Lakeland Drag Brunch.”
Harvey and several activist groups jumped in when drag queen Mama Ashley Rose, whose real name is Jason DeShazo, announced he would be trying to bring Drag Queen Story Hour to Florida again using the Mexican Consulate as a venue.
"As soon as we got wind of these, thanks to all the journalists, citizens, moms, Gays Against Groomers, everyone spread the word and called, we got this event shut down quickly," said Harvey.
The Mexican Consulate released a statement reading:
"We have notified the organizers of Drag Story Time, which was scheduled for July 29, 2023 that on that day we will not be able to provide them with a room for their cultural event since we have other activities at the Consulate on that same day."
The statement also states, “The Government of Mexico declares itself irrefutably totally against acts termed “Grooming” that violate the integrity and mental health of minors.”

The statement goes on to say the event can be rescheduled but "the Consulate's sole restriction that only adults are allowed access."
"I don't know how many grown adults are going to show up to listen to Mr. Jason read to them now, so I would assume it is cancelled," said Harvey. "That is another win for us fighting off these creepy events."
