Florida Democrats say that they are ready to take back Florida, and Florida Democratic Party Chair Nikki Fried (D) is leading the charge. Fried has spoken at length about dwindling support for Democrats in Florida, and the party even released an advertisement announcing their intention to rebrand. Fried has now announced their initiative called the Take Back Florida Tour.
The Take Back Florida Tour is a statewide tour that will run through the month of August. The Democratic party has committed to invest $1 million in voter registration this year.
The tour will make stops in 18 counties, including Broward, Collier, Duval, Escambia, Gilchrist, Hernando, Hillsborough, Jefferson, Lee, Leon, Miami-Dade, Orange, Palm Beach, Pinellas, Santa Rosa, Seminole, St. Lucie, and Volusia.
In a statement, Fried expressed that “this tour is about firing up Floridians and empowering them with the tools and training to help take back our state.”
“Unlike Ron DeSantis, we are actually here – working on the ground and talking to voters about the issues they really care about,” Fried continued, affirming that Democrats “are going to take back Florida by showing up in every corner and building a grassroots coalition that is going to mobilize to register voters, re-enroll Floridians back to vote-by-mail, and organize the people in their community.”
Since President Donald Trump (R) was elected in 2016, Florida has turned more and more red. In the 2022 midterm election, Florida Governor Ron DeSantis (R) was overwhelmingly elected, and voter registration in support for Republicans has soared.
Christian Ziegler (R), the chair of the Republican Party of Florida, announced that “as of June 30, 2023, Republicans now hold a 541, 798 voter registration advantage over Democrats in Florida!”
Calling Florida “America’s #1 State,” Ziegler added that it “is becoming more RED by the day!”
Despite the lack of support for Democratic candidates in the state, Fried remains committed to gaining support and winning over voters.
