Governor and presidential nominee Ron DeSantis (R-FL) reminded Floridians about the “Back-to-School Sales Tax Holiday, which began on Monday, July 24 until Sunday, August 6.
This two-week event will allow families to purchase school supplies before the upcoming academic year at a discounted rate and will allow those families to save more than $160 million.
“We worked hard to include this tax holiday in our Framework for Freedom Budget, and Florida families will now save more than $160 million on needed back-to-school supplies,” said Gov. DeSantis.
Moreover, Gov. DeSantis also announced that the Florida Disaster Fund was able to award $2 million in grants to six school foundations in counties that were affected the most by Hurricane Ian. These organizations will use the funds to provide supplies for school children in the hardest hit areas, “maximizing their funds to purchase more supplies and assist more students” during the Back-to-School Sales Tax Holiday.
“I’m proud that we were able to use this time to also support local education foundations that were impacted by Hurricane Ian as they prepare for the upcoming school year. In Florida, we will continue to put families first and support our students,” DeSantis stated.
The sales tax holiday will include items such as clothing, shoes, and backpacks, as well as hard goods such as notebooks, binders, paper, pens, and pencils.
Additionally, it will provide savings on personal computers, tablets, e-books, and educational materials such as flashcards, puzzle books, and jigsaw puzzles.
There will be another Back-to-School Sales Tax Holiday beginning on January 1 and will run through January 14.
Just recently, Gov. DeSantis was involved in a multi-car collision while on the campaign trail.
Governor DeSantis and his team suffered no injuries in the fender bender that occurred on the way to a fundraising event.
“(DeSantis) and his team are uninjured. We appreciate the prayers and well wishes of the nation for his continued protection while on the campaign trail,” spokesperson Bryan Griffin said in a statement.
DeSantis is incessantly campaigning as he attempts to overtake former President Donald Trump as the frontrunner in the 2024 Republican presidential primary sweepstakes. The Florida Governor is the candidate who’s secured the most donations from April 1st until now.
