DeSantis Says Harris Pushing 'Fake Narrative' in Florida

Florida’s new education curriculum has received widespread criticism from Democrats. Detractors argue that the curriculum makes offensive claims regarding slavery. Florida Governor Ron DeSantis (R) has pushed back against the criticism, calling them false. In an interview with Jesse Watters, Governor DeSantis accused Vice President Kamala Harris (D) of pushing “a fake narrative” regarding the curriculum.

Last week, Vice President Harris took a trip to Florida to discuss the controversial curriculum.

In her remarks, Vice President Harris shared that “we want to know that we are sending our children out as role models of a democracy, who, therefore, know the importance of speaking and telling truth, the importance of understanding when you are a leader, you must know history.” In reference to the curriculum, Vice President Harris and Democrats argue that it doesn’t teach facts about history, and she called the curriculum an effort part of “a national agenda.”

“What is happening here in Florida?” she questioned, adding that extremists have taken control.

In response to Vice President Harris’ criticism, Governor DeSantis dismissed her comments, calling them a “hoax.” “She wasn’t going down to the border to actually do the job there to secure it,” DeSantis explained, adding that “she wasn’t working on all the cities that are decaying because of Soros-backed prosecutors.”

“She’s not worried about the military running low on ammo and weapons stocks. No, she’s here to try to push a fake narrative about what Florida did,” DeSantis further commented, adding that by eliminating critical race theory from the curriculum, it didn’t mean that there isn’t an effort to teach African American history. “The bill actually required that be done, including talking about racial discrimination, and these standards really were born out of that.”

DeSantis concluded by saying that there was no “agenda” because “these are very thorough standards done by African American history scholars.”
