South Carolina Governor Nikki Haley (R) has penned an op-ed responding to comments from President Barack Obama (D). In the article, Haley responds to several comments President Obama directed at Haley and her campaign. Haley argues that Obama has criticized her for saying that America isn’t racist.

“You’d think he’d say that my candidacy for president – as the first female minority governor in American history – is further proof of our national progress,” Haley questions in the op-ed for the Daily Mail. Instead of praising her efforts, Haley says that Obama has chosen to criticize her and her immigrant story.

“In his words, ‘I’m one of the ‘minority candidates within the Republican Party who will validate Americans saying, ‘everything’s great, we can make it,’” she quoted, calling his comments “condescending” and going on to argue that the election of Obama as president is proof of progress in the country.

Citing a speech during his time as Senator wherein he vowed that “our pride is based on a very simple premise, summed up in a declaration made over two hundred years ago,” Haley comments on the “opportunity” Obama reference that drew his family to the United States, causing him to accomplish numerous goals.

“This is America’s promise – the pursuit of happiness and opportunity of all,” Haley clarifies, adding that “we’ve spent almost exactly 250 years striving to make it real for everyone.”

“How far have we come? So far that Barack Obama was elected. So far that I am now running for president,” she noted.

Haley expressed that “if America was racist, none of this would have happened – full stop” before noting that “every generation of American citizens has stood up and stepped forward to fight for the principles of the Declaration.

Ultimately, Haley criticizes Biden, arguing that he was given 8 years to unite the country but instead he further divided the country.
