Florida Judge Sets Trump Case for August 14th

Share

With criminal federal charges looming around former President Donald Trump (R) a trial date has officially been set for August 14th in Florida. Former President Trump is being accused of illegally withholding classified documents from the federal government.

The trial which will take place in Fort Pierce, Florida,  has been taken more seriously than the president's current New York case over hush money to Stormy Daniels during his first presidential bid by commentators, specifically Attorney General Bill Barr who believes Trump has no legitimate defense to the allegations.

President Trump maintains that because of the Presidential Records Act, he is entitled to ownership of the documents that the state claims he lied about having to the federal government.  Now up to 37 counts of criminal charges, the future of Donald Trump will be decided this Summer.

Federal prosecutors have countered these claims by arguing that as soon as President Trump left office, the documents became the legal property of the government, meant and no ex-president is entitled to these documents.  The government further expects Trump's legal team to argue the case should be dismissed due to prosecutorial misconduct.

The judge presiding over the case has set the trial date for August 14th.  The date would put Trump on trial nine days ahead of the first Republican presidential debate scheduled for Aug. 23.

If found guilty, the revelations would be unprecedented and stop the former President from pursuing his former office of the presidency.
