President Donald Trump's (R) legal woes continue as a U.S. Judge has ordered his lawyers not to disclose any evidence in the ongoing documents case. The news comes as a new poll indicates that almost three-quarters of Americans believe Trump committed an illegal or unethical act.
This week, a Florida judge ordered President Trump's former defense lawyers not to release evidence regarding the classified documents case with the public or with news media ahead of trial. U.S. magistrate judge Bruce Reinhart granted a motion that was filed last week by prosecutors. They had asked the court to set conditions on how the defense could store and use documents.
In the order filed this week, the court comments that "discovery materials, along with any information derived therefrom, shall not be disclosed to the public or the news media, or disseminated on any news or social media platform, without prior notice to and consent of the United States or approval of the Court."
The order comes at the same time that a new poll conducted by PBS NewsHour/NPR/Marist shows that Americans think that President Trump has committed either an illegal or unethical act. According to the poll, among Republicans, 13% think that what he did was illegal, 78% of Democrats think that what he did was illegal, and 50% of Independents think the same.
In contrast, 8% of Democrats think he did nothing wrong while 50% of Republicans and 25% of Independents think the same.
President Trump has spoken out against the charges, calling them another effort of the "witch-hunt" being perpetrated against him. He maintains that he will not be dropping out of the 2024 race.
Last Tuesday, Trump pled not guilty to 37 federal charges, which are tied to him allegedly mishandling classified documents after he left the White House. This includes allegedly obstructing attempts from government officials to retrieve said documents and also making false statements.
