Out on the 2024 Presidential campaign trail in Nevada, Governor Ron DeSantis (R-FL) spoke of how both Nevada and Florida have received Californians moving out because "Leftist government is destroying that state," vowing to "restore sanity" to the United States if elected President.
Gov. DeSantis said the influx of Californians was "kind of new for [Floridians], but you all [Nevadans] have been having that for many, many years," as he spoke of seeing California license plates far more frequently in Florida after becoming Governor in 2018.
"My supporters were a little bit spooked about that because they're wondering, "How are these people going to vote?" And you don't want them to come to Florida because we're well-governed and vote to make us ill-governed. As it turns out, and it may be a little bit different than what you all have had; most of the people from California who have come to Florida have come for the right reasons," said DeSantis.
"Why would you leave, like, a San Diego to come to say, Jacksonville, Florida?...
...It's because Leftist government is destroying that state. Leftist government is destroying cities all over our country."

He then related that during his Navy service upon returning from Iraq, he could not imagine moving from a place like San Diego to Florida, but people are because the "Leftist government is destroying that state."
"It's because the Leftist government is destroying that state. The leftist government is destroying cities all over our country. It's destroying other states. And I think what we're going to see in this election coming up is that America has got to make a decision because we need to restore sanity in this country. We need to restore a sense of normalcy to our communities, we need to make sure our institutions have integrity," DeSantis continued.
Additionally, while the United States is experiencing a decline, he expressed that the decline is not inevitable and is reversible. "I'm running for President because I want to reverse that decline. I am not interested in being like some of these other Republicans, somebody who is just going to manage the decline a little bit better than the Democrats will," DeSantis concluded.
Shortly after DeSantis' address, the campaign released an ad striking back at California Governor Gavin Newsom (D).
