DeSantis Questions why Trump Didn't Fix America in His First Term

Governor Ron DeSantis (R-FL) is clapping back at the insults being lobbed by former President Donald Trump on the 2024 campaign trail. During one of his appearances in New Hampshire, Gov. DeSantis responded to a boast by Trump claiming he could get America back on the right track in six months,

"Why didn't he do it in his first four years," asked a reporter

For context, DeSantis suggested it would take two Presidential terms (eight years) to fully get the United States back on a better trajectory, especially in dealing with the bureaucracy.

"You do one term, and they reverse it when they come in. You can’t have it reversed. We can’t let the bureaucracy just wait us out," said Gov. DeSantis.

DeSantis also stated that while others have spoken of battling the Biden administration's agendas, the difficulty in fighting them prevents real change.

As such, DeSantis spoke of the necessity for "a very disciplined, energetic president willing to spit nails and fight the needed battles every single day for eight years."

After all, "this is not something you can just flip a switch on."

Trump quickly snapped back at DeSantis, saying on a Des Moines radio show, "He said he's going to need eight years. I don't need eight years," adding he could do it in six months.

"The thing I'll say about DeSantis: He says eight years is important. He said he's going to need eight years. I don't need eight years. I don't need six months. I can turn this around so fast, getting inflation down, getting interest rates down, getting the economy back. This is going to take six months. When I hear him saying he needs eight years—if he needs eight years to turn it around, you don't want him as your president. I can tell you that," Trump told Des Moines radio host Simon Conway.

When NBC'S Gabe Guiterrez asked DeSantis to respond to Trump's comment, DeSantis countered, "Why didn't he do it in his first four years?"

When one considers Trump would only be able to serve one more term if reelected, does DeSantis' response have merit?
