DeSantis Defines ‘Woke’ in Iowa

Republicans have been waging a war against “woke,” and the upcoming 2024 election appears to be a mandate on “woke.” However, Republicans are now duking it out against each other because of “woke.” After President Donald Trump (R) shared that Democrats couldn’t define “woke,” Florida Governor Ron DeSantis (R) has defined it for them. With a rivalry already growing more tense, DeSantis and Trump are fighting over “woke.”

As DeSantis has said time and time again, “Florida is where woke goes to die.” So much so that First Lady Casey DeSantis has now donned a jacket on the campaign trail with the slogan. Though South Carolina Governor Nikki Haley (R) has assured that her campaign is pushing back against “woke” politics, Trump and DeSantis have been the most vocally dissenting on the campaign trail.

Earlier this month, President Trump was asked to define the word “woke,” but he brushed off doing so, arguing instead that “half the people can’t even define it.” In response, DeSantis is now arguing that “woke” means a “form of cultural Marxism.”

When he was asked by NBC Correspondent Dasha Burns to define the term, DeSantis said that it is “basically a war on the truth.”

“Look, we know what woke is, it’s a form of cultural Marxism,” he said while campaigning in Iowa, affirming that if elected President, he would push back against it as much as he has during his time as Governor.

“It’s about putting merit and achievement behind identity politics, and it’s basically a war on the truth,” DeSantis explained, adding that “that has infected institutions, and it has corrupted institutions.”

“So, you’ve got to be willing to fight the woke. We’ve done that in Florida, and we proudly consider ourselves the state where woke goes to die,” he vowed.
